Why shoulder stability matters during the golf swing
Throwing a ball, reaching onto a high shelf, and swinging a golf club all rely on the shoulder moving through a large range of motion while staying stable. During a round of golf, that movement is repeated well over 100 times. Limited thoracic mobility, rotator cuff weakness, or trying to generate more clubhead speed than your body can support can all contribute to post-round soreness.
Before your round
10–15 min
TENS/EMS therapy
Around the shoulder muscles
Shoulder circles
10 reps in each direction
Band pull-aparts
Or scapular squeezes
Practice swings
10 reps, gradually increasing speed
After your round
20–30 min
TENS/EMS therapy
Around the shoulder muscles
Apply heat
If muscles feel tight
Stretch
Chest, lats, and back of the shoulder
Reduce volume
Skip another long range session if soreness continues
